PRIMAL SCREAM "Evil Heat" (Sony, 3 stars)
Primal Scream has been the chameleon of Britpop. The band jumped from tight, jangly guitar pop in the late `80s to trend-setting grooves (1991's "Screamadelica") to ersatz Rolling Stones riff-rock (1994's "Give Out But Don't Give Up) to cinematic electronica (1997's "Vanishing Point") to rabble-rousing white noise (2000's "Xtrmntr"). What a surprise, then, that "Evil Heat" is almost predictable: It's "Xtrmntr's" more-polite sequel.
