49ers' defense apparently resting too much.

Mike Rumph has taken a lot of heat in the past three weeks for his shortcomings in pass coverage, but the 49ers' defensive failures go beyond the rookie cornerback's problems.

"You can't put the blame on one guy," defensive tackle Dana Stubblefield said Friday. "You can't put the blame on the defensive backs. You can't put the blame on the coaches and what they're calling. It's us as a group."

As a group, the 49ers (7-4) have seen their defensive ranking plummet from seventh in the league before their 28-21 victory at Seattle on Oct. 14 to a tie for 17th going into Sunday's rematch with the Seahawks (4-7) at Candlestick …
