Ford GT power for Panoz?
Nobody's saying much about it, but don't be surprised if a carbon fiber-bodied Panoz now in development ends up with the Ford GT's supercharged 5.4-liter V8 as its powerplant. Word is Panoz is working on a deal to buy 40 or so of the 550-hp engines for a future car, possibly named Abruzzi (see page 20). Ford and Panoz are mum on the rumored GT engine deal, but John Leverett, Panoz director of sales and marketing, did say, "I'm sure that motor will be something we'll be looking at,'' along with Ford V10 engines.
Euro-Viper mods
Prodrive, the specialist race-engineering company involved in Formula One with BAR, rallying with Subaru, and GT racing with Ferrari and Aston Martin, has won a contract with DaimlerChrysler to engineer the new Dodge Viper SRT-10 to meet European passenger car regulations. Prodrive will perform 55 modifications to the 8.3-liter V10 sports car at a special facility in the Dodge import center in Zeebrugge, Belgium.
