WILSON: Hyundais always seem to be like time machines, reminding you of what a Japanese car was like 10 or 15 years ago. The only flaw in this one is the interior plastic is still so slick and shiny that my wife said it felt greasy under her hand when she used the armrest on the passenger door. I thought at first it was the fault of the detailers, who can get overexcited with their Armor All bottles, but no; it's just toy-like plastic.
Regardless of what the decklid spoiler might suggest, this "GT'' is in no danger of straining your neck muscles with g forces, but as a sub-$12,000 car, it smokes that Chevrolet Aveo we had recently. At least, I didn't think I could dent the roof in with my thumb. Brings me back to time travel: The Daewoo-based Aveo is more like a 30-year-old Japanese car.
In terms of handling, the Accent GT reminds me of my '81 Plymouth Champ (nee Mitsu), which I loved at the time but don't really miss now. This is engaging enough to drive that a car lover won't feel ...
