Dec. 3--A charter school in Charlotte could become one of the first in North Carolina to be closed at the end of the school year for academic reasons.
Parents and school leaders at Sugar Creek Charter School, which is northeast of uptown, hope the N.C. Board of Education votes Thursday to give the school until this spring to make improvements in state test scores.
Both Sugar Creek and Carter Community Charter School in Durham face "non renewal" -- meaning their five-year charter may not be extended beyond June 2003.
Even those involved with the decision say it's hard to predict which way the board vote will go.
"I will not vote to close either…
