Dec. 18--Currituck County commissioners imposed a 45-day moratorium Monday night on construction of homes with more than eight bedrooms while planning officials work out how to solve parking congestion and stormwater runoff in Corolla neighborhoods.
A trend of building larger and larger beach homes in Corolla has pushed Currituck officials to address the problems that come with them much like Dare County has. Parking, sewer and water standards are usually set by estimating two people per bedroom, but renters often cram the house with guests way beyond normal capacity.
