Central Texas Foreclosures for January Surge 68 Percent.

Dec. 25--With many Central Texans still out of work, postings for the January foreclosure sale surged 68 percent compared with January of this year.

There are 278 Travis County properties posted for the Jan. 7 sale at the courthouse, according to Real Estate Foreclosures Inc., a San Antonio-based company that tracks foreclosures for the Austin and San Antonio markets.

Fourth-quarter foreclosure postings for Travis County were up 50 percent from the previous year.

In Williamson County, 175 properties were posted, a 133 percent increase from January 2002, when 75 properties were posted.
