ITEM: England's Independent newspaper reported on June 8 that "withdrawing from the EU has made the United Kingdom Independence Party a natural vehicle for Euroskeptics and voters wishing to lodge a protest vote...." Citing the UKIP's own publicity claiming that membership in the EU "stifles our initiative and threatens our freedom," the newspaper stated that the rise in anti-EU sentiment "has been remarkable."
ITEM: While bemoaning the growing anti-European Union sentiment, England's Guardian newspaper reluctantly reported on June 10 that "according to the latest 1CM poll on the subject, a majority of Britons oppose the new EU constitution, which is due to be finalized later this month. By an even greater margin, 67 percent to 23 percent, they are opposed to Britain joining the European single currency."
ITEM: On June 18, Reuters reported: "European leaders formally adopted a historic first constitution for Europe ... giving a new start to the reunited continent sit weeks after the bloc's enlargement across the former Iron Curtain."
