Jun. 27--AUSTIN, Texas--Planned Parenthood sued the state Thursday over an item in the state budget bill that will deny its clinics about $13 million used for nonabortion services, a move that will affect some 115,000 Texans.
The lawsuit, filed in federal court against Texas Commissioner of Health Eduardo Sanchez, seeks injunctive relief to halt the bill's Sept. 1 effective date.
Rider 8 in House Bill 1 denies some federal funding to health care service providers that provide abortions or contract with other entities to provide abortions.
