Aug. 1--Just about everyone who counts themselves among Columbia's old-timers has a memory of the Tiger Hotel.
For Al Germond, it's the week he spent there in the mid-1960s during a school break as a journalism student at the University of Missouri-Columbia. The first night, he paid $6 or $7 for a small room with a view of the alley, only to be rousted at 5 a.m. by city trash collectors and the boom of a Dumpster outside his window.
