Aug. 8--Summer box office hit "Finding Nemo" helped boost earnings for Pixar Animation Studios 87.5 percent, the Emeryville-based studio said Thursday.
Pixar, which released in May the film about a clown fish that leaves the safety of his Australian reef home and braves the great unknown ocean in search of his kidnapped son, posted a profit of $19.5 million, or 34 cents per share, for the quarter ended June 28. That compared with net income of $10.4 million, or 20 cents per share, for the same period a year ago. Analysts had projected earnings of 22 cents per share, according to Thomson First Call.
