Aug. 4--South African wine-makers are emerging in the forefront among key players embracing the new era of offering unique tastes to boost sales in the global market.
"Fruity flavoured wine-making is set to be the country's new marketing technique to boost our growing wine industry and help classify South African wines as 'New World' in an effort to avoid stiff competition from the world's leading players," said Senzeni Ndebele, market manager of Wines of South Africa, a non-profitable organisation.
Local wine-makers have been encouraged to shift their focus from 'Old World' to 'New World' wines, leading to a lot of changes in the vineyards of South Africa.
"We are moving in the same direction as Australia's wine success story, with an aim to becoming the home of one of the world's greatest unique-tasting wines," Ms Ndebele said.
The introduction of the new fruit-flavoured wines is aimed to reach health-conscious wine lovers in domestic markets as well as those in emerging countries in Asia and the United States.
South Africa is well-known for its wine production, with the Western Cape being its primary producing area. Prices of wine from South Africa are generally lower than wine from France.
