Aug. 4--TOT Corp has hired a consultancy to examine the marketing position and business strategy for its mobile phone venture, with a formal report expected to be completed within one month.
Thai Mobile, a joint venture of the TOT and the Communications Authority of Thailand, currently offers cellular services in the 1900-Megahertz frequency.
Eureka Co was recently hired to reassess the position of Thai Mobile and recommend potential marketing heads for the new operator.
Surapong Suebwonglee, the information and communications technology minister, recently met with TOT executives overseeing the Thai Mobile project to discuss operations to date and what changes were needed to allow the system to remain competitive in the future.
"Thai Mobile currently has some 120,000 subscribers, with another 130,000 possible users from TOT subscribers due to receive refunds," he said.
The TOT is offering fixed-line subscribers refunds on their line deposits in the form of cellular services through Thai Mobile.
