Aug. 4--The first mobile bakery shop from the Suan Dusit Rajabhat Institute is scheduled to begin roaming Bangkok in the next three months.
A uniquely decorated Isuzu van, with a specially modified chassis, will not only sell bread and cake freshly baked from an oven in the van but will be used as a place for students and culinary experts of the institute to demonstrate cooking procedures, said assistant professor Sukhum Chaleysub, the president of the institute.
The project was not for commercial purposes but a learning tool for students, he said, adding that it is also aimed at educating the public on how to process and manage food in a healthy and efficient way.
"We will show the secret recipe in making our famous 'toffee cake' and others. As an educational institution, we should not keep [recipes] secret."
There will be explanations on calorie intake and how to burn off the calories.
"In addition, we will show them an effective system for managing all types of waste and how to eliminate used cooking oil in an environmentally efficient way," Mr Sukhum said.
As a famous institute of culinary studies for more than 70 years, it is necessary for Suan Dusit to be a good model in showing how to remove waste properly instead of pouring it into drainage systems, he said.
