Aug. 4--Developers have hatched yet another hotel plan for the Interstate 70 corridor.

Local landlord John Peters and Branson hotel developer Kendall Combs plan a 104-room Comfort Inn & Suites on the former Payless Cashways site, which Peters owns, behind The Market Place.

Peters and Combs will be equal partners in the venture, but Combs will be the managing partner in charge of hiring the staff and running the day-to-day operations.

"I know the hotel business, and John is better at getting the building built," Combs said.

Combs owns hotels in Kansas City, Springfield, Branson and small towns in Kansas under such flags as Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express and La Quinta Inn.

Peters and Combs initially started talking about developing a hotel in south Columbia at Peters' Peach Tree Plaza development, which later attracted interest from Jefferson City hotelier Ted Stewart. …
