Approval for Foreign Trade Boosts MidAmerica Airport in St. Louis.

Oct. 13--The foreign trade zone designation just awarded to MidAmerica Airport will be a vital key to attracting a cargo carrier to the under-used airport, airport director Tim Cantwell said.

The U.S. Foreign Trade Zone Board approved the expansion of the zone operated by the Tri-City Regional Port District on Oct. 3. The zone, formally known as Foreign Trade Zone #31C, now takes in three additional sites:

-- 500 acres at River's Edge industrial park at the Port District.

-- 3,851 acres at MidAmerica Airport in Mascoutah, including a cargo facility under construction there.
