Oct. 29--UNIVERSAL CORP.'S PROFITS RISE: Universal Corp.'s profit rose 21 percent in the company's fiscal first quarter that ended Sept. 30.
The Richmond-based tobacco leaf dealer reported a profit of $34.4 million, or $1.37 per share, compared with $28.5 million, or $1.09 per share, in the year-earlier period.
Last year's results include a before-tax, $13.5 million charge for the restructuring of the company's U.S. operations.
