Thailand to Waive Taxes on New Bond Issue for Non-Residents.

Sep. 5--The first lot of baht-denominated bonds is expected to range from 20 to 30 billion baht, with taxes waived for non-resident investors, according to Olarn Chaipravat, an adviser to the Fiscal Policy Research Institute.

Dr Olarn said Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and Finance Minister Suchart Jaovisidha had already given preliminary approval to the concept.

Earlier this week Finance Ministry officials announced that non-residents would be allowed to invest directly in onshore baht-denominated bonds, part of a broader initiative aimed at strengthening Asian bond markets.
