Thai Baht Hits 13-Month High As Inflows Continue to Flood In.
Sep. 2--The baht yesterday hit a 13-month high against the US dollar, breaking through the 41 barrier to close at 40.91/93 compared with 41.13/17 on Friday.
Dealers said the strength of the unit reflected steady capital inflows with the improving economy, as well as gains yesterday in the Japanese yen against the greenback.
Regulators said they were monitoring baht trends for signs of speculation.
M.R. Pridiyathorn Devakula, governor of the Bank of Thailand, yesterday repeated statements that new measures to curb speculation in the foreign exchange market were planned.
