Sep. 10--The health-care and medical services industry will earn the country about US$1 billion, or 40 billion baht, in foreign exchange this year, according to the Export Promotion Department.

The boom has prompted the government to step up promotion of services such as hospitals and spas on a regional level.

Services including hospitals, spas, cosmetics and herbal products were poised for a 20 percent revenue expansion this year, helping Thailand draw nearer its target of becoming a regional health-care centre in the next three to five years, said Pimpapaan Chansilpa, the department's deputy director-general.
