Oct. 3--Thai shares closed down 0.48 percent yesterday, despite the announcement by Moody's Investors Service about a review for a possible upgrade of the country's credit rating.
The Stock Exchange of Thailand index closed at 567.02 points, down 2.73, on trade worth 25.19 billion baht. The index rose as high as 573.37 in the morning before losing ground in the afternoon.
The baht, meanwhile, continued to gain against the US dollar, trading near the key 39.6 level for much of the day. The currency closed at 39.62/64 compared with 39.82/84 on Wednesday.
Dealers said the baht hit a three-year high at 39.5 in intra-day trade, driven by gains by the Japanese yen and the Moody's announcement.
