Oct. 2--Future appreciation in the baht is unlikely to affect the competitiveness in Thai exports, according to Fitch Ratings.
Brian Coulton, senior director of Fitch Ratings Hong Kong, said the baht was clearly on an appreciation trend.
Even so, he said, gains were unlikely to affect the competitiveness of Thai exports, given that the real effective exchange rate remained 20 percent lower than 1996 levels.
Speaking at a conference hosted by the credit agency Fitch Ratings on Thailand's economic outlook, Mr Coulton said baht trends would hinge on future movements of the Chinese yuan and Japanese yen.
