Oct. 1--In the wooded hills of Hawthorne, New York, stands a laboratory packed with bold, black monitors and full of gadgets in various stages of completion, some already on the market, some years away.
Among the technology attracting attention from recent visitors to IBM's Industry Solutions Lab showroom was a secure multifunctional wireless personal digital assistant (PDA). The product is being developed with California-based Consumer Direct Link (CDL).
CDL integrates technology including encryption chips, fingerprint authentication, global system for mobile (GSM) communications capability and Bluetooth wireless technology, transforming the way CDL employees gain access to offices, government facilities, manufacturing sites or warehouses.
