Jul. 21--TOMS RIVER, N.J. -- A new law which caps the amount of surplus school districts can maintain led the Toms River Regional Board of Education to reduce the tax levy for the 2004-05 school budget by more than $750,000 last night.
The board voted 8 to 0 to readopt the amended budget, which will drop the tax levy by $759,936. Under the amended budget, the school purposes tax rate in Dover Township, Pine Beach and Beachwood will drop by 1 cent per $100 of assessed property value, Board Secretary Jerold Jelletts said.
