Nov. 5--An eight-billion-baht telephone line expansion project for TOT Corp to install another 565,500 new numbers in Bangkok and the provinces was approved by the cabinet yesterday.

The plan, proposed by Information and Communications Technology Minister Surapong Suebwonglee, aims to enable the corporatised state enterprise to meet public demand.

The minister said the one-year project would be financed by TOT's own funds and a bid would be called soon.

Of the new numbers, 74,670, or 13 percent, will be installed in Bangkok while the remaining 490,830 lines will serve people in the provinces.
