Nov. 4--Thailand is rapidly catching up in mobile services and moving closer to attaining the roll out of 3G (third generation) services, according to the UK-based GSM Association.

Chief marketing officer Bill Gajda yesterday said that it was apparent that Thailand was nearing being able to offer 2.5G mobile services with the provision of broadband technologies such as GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) and Edge (Enhanced Data for GSM Evolution).

"I believe Thailand will make 3G live up to a commercial level given its competitive advantage and network capacities, but it's just a matter of time," he said.
