Nov. 6--An inheritance tax would generate relatively little revenue for the state, given loopholes in the system, according to Finance Minister Suchart Jaovisidha.

He said a more straightforward method of lifting revenues would be to raise tax rates in high income brackets.

Thailand currently has a top rate of 37 percent, taxed on personal income of more than four million baht per year.

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra earlier directed the Finance Ministry to consider details of an inheritance tax.

But Mr Suchart said a relatively small number of large inheritances would fall liable for tax ...
