Dec. 5--The Bank of Thailand had eased the foreign-exchange controls on five neighbouring countries in order to facilitate trade and investment in the region.
The central bank said that transactions between local banks and their branches located in Laos, Burma, Malaysia, Cambodia and Vietnam would be exempted from its recent measures enacted to curbing baht speculations.
The central bank had imposed a limit on local banks' short-term borrowing with non-resident counterparties at 50 million baht per transaction. In October, it had prohibited banks from depositing foreign funds that had no underlying transactions in ...
