Dec. 3--The selection of the new president of CAT Telecom is stalled after the front-runner for the post stepped down, leaving the board no choice but to call for a new round of applications.

The state agency does not even have an acting president at the moment, following the decision by Kravuth Koosuwan to step down from the post on Friday. He remains deputy president.

Mr Kravuth cited personal reasons for his decision, but company sources say some senior CAT Telecom executives are disheartened by what they see as the diminished future role contemplated by the government for the company.
