Dec. 6--The private sector would like the Thai government seek Japan's help in developing technology for Thailand's food industry as a substitute for delaying tariff cuts in the sector as it works toward setting up a bilateral free trade area (FTA) agreement, according to Pornsil Patchrin-tanakul, the deputy secretary-general of the Board of Trade of Thailand.
The move would be a good way to help boost trade value and offset Japan's reluctance to include tariff cuts on sensitive farm products, said Mr Pornsil, who is also the secretary-general of the Joint WTO (World Trade Organisation) Committee.
