Dec. 6--The Finance Ministry has approved 12 billion baht worth of advance payments to retired civil servants from the state pension plan, with the first payments to be made before the New Year holiday.

The pension advance programme allows retired officials to request advance pension payments of up to 15 times their final monthly salaries but not exceeding 200,000 baht. It was set up as a way to provide financial assistance to the retirees as well as boost the economy.

Supa Piyajitti, deputy chief of the Comptroller General's Department, said 208,118 retired officials or 80.51 percent out of the 258,484 eligible ...
