Vaccine Shortages Reported as Clinics Gear Up for Nasty Flu Season.

Dec. 6--Amid news reports that this could be a bad flu season, doctor's offices are reporting a rush for flu shots and some are running low on the vaccine.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said yesterday that it had reports of some places experiencing vaccine shortages, and health officials in Pennsylvania and New Jersey said they, too, had reports from some doctor's offices and hospitals that they were out of shots.

The manufacturers of the flu vaccine said they had shipped almost all of the vaccine they made this year. The CDC said it was not unusual for supplies to run short this time of year.

Health officials said patients may have to be persistent to find a shot.
