Dec. 29--If 2003 was a ho-hum year in Alaska's oil patch, 2004 looks to be more of the same.
There will be a bit more construction activity on the North Slope if permits are issued early in the year, as expected, and work gets under way on development of small "satellite" oil accumulations near the Alpine field, west of Prudhoe Bay.
ConocoPhillips is also expected to start work on the first phase of a long-planned expansion of the Alpine field oil processing facilities, which will allow for further increases in production from the area.
BP Exploration Alaska Inc. and ConocoPhillips will continue work on developing large viscous oil resources overlying the producing Kuparuk River, Milne Point and Prudhoe Bay oil fields. The work is being done mostly from existing pads.
