Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has been thwarted in his aim to become a head coach in the National Basketball Association or at the college level.

There are good reasons for that.

Big stars almost never make good coaches.

Big stars who spent much of their playing time being aloof, cold and distant from teammates, fans and reporters never make good coaches.

Big stars, especially aloof big stars, are not equipped to be personable, energetic, warm, communicative, committed, charismatic and passionate. Good coaching, with some exceptions, requires all of those qualities.

Abdul-Jabbar, the former Milwaukee Bucks center, still aims to coach, even though there have been no takers.
