ORLANDO, Fla. _ The condition of people with severely weakened hearts improved after doctors injected them with stem cells taken from the patient's bone marrow, a researcher said Monday.
Some of the patients were taken off heart-transplant lists.
In a study of 20 patients, the 11 people who received the stem-cell injections did considerably better than the nine who did not, said Dr. Emerson Perin, a clinical assistant professor of medicine at Houston's Baylor College of Medicine, which oversaw the research.
