The nation's two largest makers of flu vaccine are out of the shots and could not fill a surge in orders last week amid reports of flu deaths in Colorado and growing expectations for a dangerous season, they announced Friday.
It's not clear how many vaccines are still available nationwide, but officials said about 83 million doses were distributed. They continue to recommend that people get vaccinated, especially those at high risk for dangerous complications, such as the elderly and children ages 6 to 23 months.
