DALLAS _ Men who suffer from enlargement of the prostate may significantly reduce complications and symptoms by taking a combination of two drugs, researchers at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas have found. Researchers say the study is important because prostate enlargement, or benign prostatic hyperplasia, affects more than half of all men over age 60. About 30 percent of those affected have significant symptoms.
The study, published Thursday in The New England Journal of Medicine, found that combining the drugs doxazosin and finasteride reduced the worsening of symptoms and development of complications by 66 percent.
