The publication papers market is stable at present, but prices could increase in the autumn, writes Andy Scott.

There has been a slight upward movement in the European price index for LWC (lightweight coated) papers, mainly due to the strengthening euro.

However, the summer slowdown is having an impact on manufacturers' order books. Plans for a price increase by some manufacturers for July were put on hold, as the magazine paper market continues to see relatively weak demand.

A magazine paper-buying source said he did not rule out manufacturers attempting to try for a price increase later in 2004, after some market improvement.
