If you're going to use someone else's material as the inspiration for your campaign, use it well. Wieden & Kennedy was inspired by a short Swiss film for Honda's 'cog', but it took the material, sharpened it, put it to commercial use and should get even more credit than it has for the resultant ad.
However, the same cannot be said of the Tories' latest salvo against the Labour Government. The claustrophobic connotations of red tape were ably conveyed by Boase Massimi Pollitt in 1985 to defend the GLC against Margaret Thatcher (see right, top). It appears the ad is now being aped by the Tories to fight the Labour Government.
