TOPEKA, Kan. _ Donna L. Walker, charged in an apparent hoax that devastated the parents of a missing Indiana girl, sat shackled in a Shawnee County courtroom Friday.
In her first court appearance since she surrendered Thursday in Topeka, Walker, dressed in a navy blue jail jumpsuit, listened quietly as a Shawnee County judge set her bail at $100,000.
Her attorney requested a lower bond, saying Walker was on medical disability and had surrendered voluntarily. District Judge Thomas Conklin refused.
"It's my understanding she's moved around a lot," Conklin said. "In my opinion ... she's a flight risk."
