Shortly after noon on April 5, two young men knocked on the front door of Elroy Dusbabek's farmhouse in Spokane County, Washington. Since Dusbabek was not expecting anyone, and did not want to be bothered by salesmen, he did not open the door. Instead, he went to an upstairs window to try to observe who was knocking. Although Dusbabek was unable to see the men, he heard them walk to the rear of the house. Moments later, he heard them drive away.
