Jul. 5--The prospects for developing iron-ore smelters in Thailand are limited due to China's advantage of being able to build low-cost facilities, according to a study by the Iron and Steel Institute of Thailand.

The study was commissioned by the Industry Ministry as part of its effort to promote private sector investment in the upstream steel industry to develop a full production network.

It cautioned investors to consider seriously before investing in such a venture because China was in the process of building many iron-ore smelters that in the long run would lead to excessive domestic supply of steel and consequently ...
