Jul. 6--Thai shares broke through the 650 barrier yesterday, gaining 1.28 percent on light trade as investors bought up selected blue-chip stocks in anticipation of bullish second quarter corporate results.
The Stock Exchange of Thailand index closed at 655.87 points, up 8.3 points, in trade worth 11.27 billion baht. Leading trade were banks, up 3.38 percent; communications, up 2.06 percent; and energy, up 0.8 percent.
Supakorn Sujirattanawimol, research head at SCIB Securities, said buying came mostly toward the end of the afternoon session, fuelled mostly by speculation over second-quarter results.
