Investor calls for Thailand to subsidize the price of ethanol.

Jul. 5--An investor in a project to produce ethanol has called for a state price subsidy as the existing price set by state-run oil companies was not sufficient to make the venture financially viable.
Rerm Udom Sugar Factory Co, which is now building a 900-million baht ethanol plant, says the maximum price set by PTT Plc and Bangchak Petroleum at 12 baht per litre is too low to cover production costs.
"The ethanol price should be between 13 and 15 baht per litre to enable the company to recoup its investment in seven to eight years," said Anuchit Purachit, a vice-president at Rerm Udom Sugar Factory.
