Jul. 3--Thailand's aim to double international tourist arrivals to 20 million by 2008 and to earn 700 billion baht may be achievable, but doubts linger whether the country can create the infrastructure to cope with such dramatic growth.
Harsh Varma, regional representative of the World Tourism Organisation (WTO) for Asia-Pacific, sounded the warning at the Thailand International Tourism conference yesterday.
Dr Varma was sceptical as to whether tourism supporting facilities including tourist centres, domestic transport, foreign language skills and training could cope with a large new influx of visitors.
