TV reduces sleep hormone levels
Children who watch a lot of TV produce less melatonin, the hormone that triggers sleep and is linked to the onset of puberty, say Italian researchers. Melatonin levels in kids kept away from their TV sets, computers and video games and exposed to limited artificial light increased by 30%. Light curbs the production of melatonin, whose increased levels make people sleepy.
