Fixed mortgage rates fall again
The average interest rate on a 30-year fixed-term mortgage slid to 6.21% this week from 6.25% last week. The year's low was 5.38% in mid-March. The average 15-year mortgage rate sank to 5.62% from 5.64% the prior week. But the 1-year adjustable rate climbed 6 basis points to 4.19%. It was under 3.5% a year ago.
** M2 money supply fell $4.9 bil to $6.2828 tril in the week ended June 21. M1 rose $12.8 bil to $1.3328 tril and M3 shrank $10.4 bil to $9.2498 tril.
ECB again leaves rates untouched
The European Central Bank left its benchmark interest rate at 2%. ECB President Jean-Claude Trichet said though the ECB has no bias about future rate moves, it will remain "vigilant" about inflation risks. Euro zone inflation eased to 2.4% in June from 2.5% in May. That's still above the ECB's 2% ceiling. Trichet also said the ECB wasn't influenced by the Fed's decision to raise U.S. rates Wednesday.
