The rivalry between Clemmow Hornby Inge and TBWA\London reached fever pitch in Cannes last week. Ever since CHI stole TBWA's One Account brief last year, there has been no love lost between the two shops.
So it should not have surprised too many people when TBWA decided to hold 'Trev and Bil's' boat party at the same time as CHI's Cannes bash, just a few yachts down the way in Cannes' crowded harbour.
While CHI offered the understated elegance of The Hamilton, TBWA went big and brazen with Bojangles. With CHI sending the invitations out first, it had the initial edge, and bragging rights seemed a cert when it e-mailed its guest list assuring attendees that England versus Portugal would be screened.
However, TBWA heard of the plot, and within hours had sourced its own screen and e-mailed an almost-identical guest list informing them that footie lovers' needs would be met on board Bojangles.
Tragedy struck, however, when CHI's screen failed to work and the agency, two crates of wine and a lot of guests headed straight for Bojangles.
TBWA, ruthless to the end, lifted the gangplank and refused to let anyone on board.
