Jul. 2--The full implementation of a free trade pact with China and India could pose a threat to the Thai silk industry by allowing a flood of cheap silk to enter the country, a Thai silk expert warned yesterday.
Peerapong Chaosattakul, director of the Nakhon Ratchasima Sericultural Research Centre, said Thai silk would be hard hit, particularly in terms of cost competitiveness, once free trade deals with China, India and other silk-producing countries come into full effect in 2005.
