Jul. 2--The trading and settlement system of Thailand's first commodity exchange has been operating smoothly although the trading volume was relatively low in its first month of operation.

The success has prompted the Agricultural Futures Exchange of Thailand (AFET) to expand the market by adding rice as a new product next month and organising a roadshow in Japan, its executives said.

"Our high expectation when the market started was that the online system would run smoothly because an efficient system will help build market credibility. Now that we have successfully passed that stage, we will focus on driving the market," said Punsak Vejanurug, the AFET president.
